Pierre's Hole Mud Honey Style

Yesterday Sara AKA 'Schroe Dog' and I travelled over to Grand Targhee with Mike Shane. The 2 of them had done this race before but I was a newbie. Saturday Sara and I were to race 50 miles on our single speeds and Mike was conquering the 100 sans gears. We stopped in Idaho Falls on the way over where we cooled off with a refreshing carbonated beverage dubbed 'Beaver Dick Ale'. Seriously. Then talk of the race course spilled .. I was getting a bit nervous I have to admit. This sounded hard and I really didn't know what to expect. As it turns out they didn't know what they were in for either.... The course had traded long dirt road descents for more single track and more and more single track climbing than in years passed and next year they threaten for even more single track. Wow! Don't get me wrong wE all love us some single track but coupled with 4000 feet of climbing per lap ... It was damn hard- even soul crushing at times. Actually the whole 2nd lap was pretty darn soul crushing! Sara and i were a bit intimidated at the start.... The OTHER girl single speeder was asking techy questions 'what gear are you running?' 'what are your goals for the race?' Um, I duuno.... We seemed lame and she seemed fast! Cheers to Mike for busting out 100 on that course and getting 3rd. Holy hell! Another proud moment for Mud Honey, too. India, Sara and Laura Furtado raced the 50!!! Thank you Sara for 'necking me' the entire race. We were a cat and mouse show out there all day LONG and it was nice to have a friend, teammate and fierce competitor out there to commiserate with. Misery does love company and we were a pretty darn good team! India 1, Sara 2 in single speed but more impressively 3 & 4 women's overall! And spin and spin .....
